How To Hive A Swarm Of Bees
The first thing you need to do is find a swarm. Which if you already keep bees, will probably appear from the month of May on a tree
near you hives. A hive of bees can be considered as a single entity, the drones of a swarm live only to try and breed with a young
queen from a neighbouring hive. They are nothing more than spermatozoa. The worker bees as name suggests carry out all the work of
the hive. The queen bee, is the reproductory organ of the hive. No queen and the hive will die.
First of all after donning protective mask, and other anti sting equipment we trim away all the excess branches from around
the swarm this gives ease of access to the swarm.
Enlist the help of someone who enjoys the honey!
Place empty skeep above the swarm, and apply smoke from below, the natural instinct of the bees is to climb away from the
smoke into the skeep.
When the majority of the bees (including the queen) are in your skeep, remove it from the tree and place on a hard flat surface nearby.
The rest of the bees are gently knocked from the tree and placed below the skeep where they will naturally climb in the
skeep and get work making you honey and wax.
