I am a woodworm? - 05 Novemeber 2010
With this being a quite time in the self reliant garden. I am doing other tasks that
normally get put off. One of those has been to make book shelves for all the books that I have aquired.
I am by no means any good at carpentry. In fact I could be described as totally useless. Think Homer Simpson standard and you are about there.
I have though got all the tools if I get the urge to make something.
Bits of wood can only really be bought in their raw state here, so to get something that can be used for furniture making, quite a lot of work has to go into it.
I should point out that if you are thinking about making something, it is imperative that you start with a plan, unless of course unlike me you are actually quite good
with your hands.
So first of all the wood is cut to size, it is then planed, sanded and finally put together, and painted/varnished/stained etc.
This is my attempt. I was quite proud of it. So much so that I told my friends up the pub that I was thinking of starting out as a carpenter on the side. Or at least I thought I did.
After just over 2 years of being here I have picked up the language quite well,
or at least my neighbours tell me that I have. The word for carpenter is 'dervadelits' Unfortunately for me whilst bragging of my skills in the pub
I told everyone I was a 'dervaditsa'. Which translates as 'I am a woodworm'. I think they like me just for the comedy factor sometimes.
