As my better half is here (yes you Annie) we thought we would tour the local area, as when she has finished tidying up my mess she really
does deserve a break. The Rhodopees are not far away and the Ski resort in Pamparovo is in beautiful countryside and is a lot nicer
than when all the 'Ya - Ya's' turn up and talk skiing with Pimms. The locals in my pub told me I could still do some skiing 'bez snag'. If you
dont get this joke see here
The drive is not a long one from our village but thought we would treat ourselves to night in a hotel and a restaurant meal. We got there in about
2 hours, the roads would be recognisable to any one that has driven near the Alps out of season, empty and very bendy.
As autumn is well on its way the broadleaf forest is very picturesque, with all the leaves changing from green to golds and yellows. The weather had
Annie reminising about Swansea (sideways rain). When we got to Pamparovo, the views would have been breath taking had we been able to see more than
10 feet in front of faces!
Not to be put of by a bit of rain, we booked into a hotel (3 BG Stars) for 15 Euros, which was located next to lake and was called the Fish Restaurant and Hotel.
Obviously for our meal that night we took advantage of the local produce I had beef, and Annie favoured the chicken. The Pike really didn't sound that appealing,
there was Mackeral on the menu, but I pointed out to Annie that this probably didn't come from the lake!
We had nice night in the hotel with out having any snow! Got up and left early in the morning as the rain coming down would have made the West coast of Ireland green with envy!
On the way back the visibilty started to improve, but the rain still came down, so for all the good things about visiting tourist resorts out of season, the cheap hotel,
the inexpensive restaurant, the lack of Pimms drinking "Ya - Ya's" the down side of enjoying the views in fog and rain seemed to even it out a bit. We have decided to go
back in August next year and try a bit of hiking!
